Tok’s Fourth of July parade brought out the whole town. Half of the vehicles in the parade belonged
to the forestry service. There was no
police car. The parade ended at the
fairgrounds which was set up for the log chopping contest, the greased pole
challenge, and a place for kids to hunt for goodies in wood shavings. We ate an excellent hamburger and people
watched for a bit.
The campground had a salmon bake at 4 pm. We were instructed to bring our own plate and
side dishes. A pasta salad seemed like a
good side dish for salmon. We shared our
table with a charming couple from Pennsylvania and one from Texas. Each were on their way back from visiting
interior Alaska and had great stories to tell.
