And We Are Off

May 23, 2013

Grenada State Park from our campsite
After months of preparation we woke early this morning to ready everything for the housesitter and load the last items into the motorhome.    Our first destination will be Canton, Michigan to visit our son and his daughter.  Clark was excited to climb into the motorhome and settle into his bed on the floor between our seats.  I forgot to connect his leash to my seatbelt and he kept nudging me to remind me.  I wonder if it makes him feel safer or if it just one of those many rituals that the dog insists on?

We chose to travel  the  I-55 route.  It is a few miles longer but we will do almost anything to avoid the New Orleans traffic.   Our trip was uneventful  all of the way to our first stop near Grenada , Mississippi.   The trees along the route were full and green from our cool wet spring .

The Corps of Engineers campground in Grenada was a wonderful stop for our first night.  We had a site that covered at least an acre on the lake.  50 amps with water, a 100 foot long pull-through,  a beautiful view,  and only $10 a night with our Golden Age pass.    There were 88 sites here and most of the families had boats or party barges to enjoy the lake.  Bass were spawning along the shore and birds singing in the trees.  We will definitely plan to return.
